In 2022, around 47 percent of children at preschool age in Japan played with toys and scale models, declining only slightly compared to the previous iteration of the survey. The Japanese toy market offers various types of scale models depicting objects like vehicles and animals, and fictional characters of popular media franchises.

*The survey was conducted in February or March of each stated year. Figures were calculated based on the response of mothers with children aged one year and six months to six years, living in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama).
The 2022 survey was conducted online, while previous iterations were postal questionnaires. The number of respondents for each iteration was as followed:
