In 2023, savings banks maintained the most extensive branch network in Germany, with 6,965 branches across the country. Cooperative banks followed closely behind, operating 6,430 branches nationwide. Despite the small number of large banks, they had the third-highest number of branches, with 3,471 offices across Germany.
