According to a 2023 survey, over two-thirds of ride-hailing drivers in the United States have experience violence or abuse in their line of work. The most commonly reported form of harassment was being verbally abused, which more than half of driver had experienced. Meanwhile, two percent of drivers reported having been shot or stabbed.

The survey was distributed on Facebook and Instagram and was available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Somali. The survey reached drivers in 35 U.S. states and in the District of Columbia.
86 percent of respondents drove for Uber, 65 percent drove for Lyft, and one percent of respondents drove for other companies.
