Throughout the period given, the annual greenhouse gas emissions of Ryanair generated from the fuel consumption to power the jet engines increased gradually until the coronavirus pandemic. The global epidemic disrupted airline operations, which resulted in a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions by global airline companies, and Ryanair was no exception. Since the financial year of Ryanair ends on March 31st, the effects of the pandemic were reflected in the financial year of 2021, when the emission levels dropped to 2.9 million from 12.7 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. Following the ease of pandemic interventions, emission levels started to increase again in the following years. As of 2023, Ryanair had emitted 14.3 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent from jet fuel consumption, a 57 percent increase compared to the previous year.
