Funding sources for rental assistance programs in the U.S. 2023

In 2023, the number of rental assistance programs in the United States that rely on general revenue for funding was the highest. The number of rental housing initiatives banking on general revenue (recurring funding by state or local governments) amounted to 139. Moreover, certain rental assistance programs also depended on dedicated funding streams, encompassing a total of 83 programs. A significant proportion of programs utilized specialized one-time funding from both federal and non-federal sources, resulting in a total of 63 programs.
