In 2023, the share of rental housing programs in the United States providing funding to homeless people or individuals at risk of homelessness was the highest. The percentage of programs providing aid for homelessness was nearly 61 percent. The second-most popular program category was those that aid individuals with mental illness, representing over 23 percent of all programs. Housing assistance programs for people with disabilities accounted for over 18 percent of the total. The programs for the elderly, households with rental arrears or eviction notices, and youth accounted for around 11 percent each and over 33 percent together.
