Rental housing assistance initiatives in the U.S. 2023

In 2023, the number of rental housing programs in the United States that provide funding for capital resources was the highest in the country. The number of programs that provide capital resources to rental housing developers was 195, representing over 55 percent of the programs. Tenant-based rental assistance programs that provide subsidies to renters were the second most popular, accounting for nearly 27 percent of all programs. Additional types of programs included tenant tax relief, combination (rental assistance plus capital resources), and project-based rental assistance, which comprised 63 programs.
