According to a survey conducted in Japan in 2022, the average amount of savings of an elderly household was around 16 million Japanese yen. Households with children reported an average of around 10.3 million yen in savings.

Excluding households that did not know whether they had savings, and households that had savings but did not know the amount of their savings.
Senior households: households consisting solely of persons aged 65 years or older, and those that include unmarried persons under 18 years of age.
Mother and child households: households consisting solely of a woman under 65 years of age who does not have a spouse due to bereavement, divorce, or other reasons (including unmarried households and including cases where the spouse has been missing for a long time) and a child under 20 years of age (including adopted children).
