Globally, most sectors have observed an overall increase in methane emissions since 1990, with the exception of the transportation sector and buildings. Global agriculture-related methane emissions were 15 percent higher in 2022 when compared to 1990 levels, and 13 percent higher when compared to 2005 levels. The agriculture sector is the largest source of global methane emissions.
