According to a study conducted in Nigeria in 2023, only 24 percent of men and 22 percent of women were aware of the RTS,S malaria vaccine. On the other hand, 76 percent of men and 78 percent of women were unaware of this vaccine.

RTS,S/AS01 (RTS,S) is the world's first malaria vaccine and the first approved vaccine against a human parasitic disease. This vaccine decreases the odds of a child contracting malaria, including extreme, and life-threatening malaria, and it reduces child deaths. It is also the only malaria vaccine to be recommended and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) to date.
