In 2021, nearly 37 percent of older Canadians in long-term care (LTC) with any use of prescription drugs had between five and nine Rx drugs prescribed. The share was only one percentage point lower among seniors in LTC with a chronic use of prescription drugs. This statistic shows the percentage of seniors in long-term care in Canada by number of drug classes prescribed in 2021.

There were 6 provinces submitting identifiable long-term care (LTC) data to NPDUIS as of November 2021: Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. LTC data from Newfoundland and Labrador is not available prior to March 2017.
