In Portugal, the value of real estate properties acquired by holders of residency permits for investors was the highest, during the period considered, in 2014, when it reached 840.43 million euros. This figure decreased to less than half in 2015, just to climb again in 2016 to almost 787.5 million euros. In 2022, the value invested in real estate by golden visas holders surpassed 534.6 million euros.

A so-called golden visa or residency permit for investors (ARI) is a permit for entry and residence in Portugal granted to foreign citizens who are not nationals of the European Union or are residents outside the Schengen Area, in exchange for a large financial investment, namely the acquisition of real estate, among others.
