Scope 3 categories accounted for an estimated 89 percent of global oil and gas sector emissions on average in 2021. The majority of oil and gas sector emissions come from the use of sold products by customers. Scope 3 emissions are not produced by a company, but generated up and down the company’s value chain. The oil and gas sector is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions.
