According to a study conducted in Nigeria in April 2023, 71 percent of respondents who reported possessing an ITN (insecticide-treated net) said they had slept under it, compared to 67 percent in April 2021. On the other hand, 29 percent of respondents in April 2023 considered not having an ITN, compared to 33 percent in April 2021.
An ITN is typically used to help decrease malaria illness, extreme sickness, and death in an endemic region. Some studies confirm lower chances of contracting malaria for pregnant women who sleep under an ITN as against pregnant women who do not.
