Based on a study conducted in Nigeria in 2023, the majority of respondents across all age groups, who reported using an insecticide-treated net (ITN) said they had slept under it. Moreover, 33 percent of the respondents between ages 18 and 35 years and 28 percent of the respondents between ages 36 and 60 years revealed not using the net.
An ITN is typically used to help decrease malaria illness, extreme sickness, and death in an endemic region. Some studies confirm lower chances of contracting malaria for pregnant women who sleep under an ITN as against pregnant women who do not.
