Scope 3 emissions are estimated to account for around three quarters of a company's total emissions on average. However, this varies by sector. Scope 3 emissions were estimated to be approximately 100 percent of a company's emissions in the financial services sector. By comparison, Scope 3 emissions accounted for 16 percent of cement sector emissions, while Scope 1 emissions accounted for roughly 80 percent. Scope 3 emissions are those that are not produced by the company itself, but are generated up and down the company's value chain by its suppliers.
