In 2023, less than six percent of 10,899 drug offenders in South Korea received treatment. People who struggle with drug addiction can voluntarily apply for, or be sentenced in court to attend, free addiction treatment in specialized facilities. In practice, however, few take advantage of this, with only 627 voluntary patients and 14 court-ordered patients that year.
