The share of population without health insurance in Latin America stayed below 40 percent from 2011 to 2021. The highest figure was observed in 2011, with 35.6 percent, while an estimated 27.9 of the population was uninsured in 2019, the lowest share observed during the period analyzed. As of 2020, Guatemala was the country with the highest out-of-pocket share of total health expenditure in Latin America.
