In 2022, the highest number of allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse against UN peacekeepers were made against people involved in MONUSCO in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Next to being a horrible crime in itself, sexual exploitation by peacekeepers is particularly concerning as it harms people who already are in a vulnerable situation. Additionally, it is likely that a high number of cases remain unreported.
