According to a study conducted in 2023, most respondents in almost all the regions of Nigeria reported that they used ACTs (Artemisinin-based combination therapies) to treat malaria. Arthemeter was the second most popular choice in the North East geo-political zone, as 26 percent of respondents living in this region reported using it for treating malaria.

Malaria is a dangerous disease transmitted to humans by certain mosquitoes that bear the malaria parasite. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
