In a study conducted in Nigeria in 2023, most respondents reported that they used ACTs (Artemisinin-based combination therapies) to treat themselves of malaria. Thirteen percent of men and 11 percent of women considered that they took Arthemeter. Moreover, one percent of respondents reported that they used herbs to treat malaria.

Malaria is a dangerous disease transmitted to humans by mosquitoes that bear the malaria parasite. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
