This was the second highest ranking the men's national football team reached, following the previous year when they placed 11th globally. The Atlas Lions managed to go through to the semi-finals in the Qatar World Cup 2022, losing to France after conceding two goals. On the other hand, the team registered its lowest ranking in 2014, placing 81st globally.
