Furthermore, Bafana Bafana held its highest ranking in 2000, when it placed 20th globally in the period reviewed. This position was reached after securing their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1996, being runners-up to Egypt in 1998, and placing third in the tournament taking place in 2000.
