Seats held by women in parliaments worldwide 2023, by region

Around the world a quarter of the seats in parliaments are held by women. At the regional level, Australia and New Zealand have the highest female representation in parliament, where women hold 46 percent of seats. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the Oceania region excluding Australia and New Zealand, in which only 6.5 percent of women hold seats in parliaments, the lowest out of each region. Latin America and the Caribbean has the second highest proportion of women in parliament, with women holding 34 percent of seats, while North Africa and Western Asia have the second lowest proportion of women in parliament, with women holding 18 percent of seats.
