Wind energy penetration share in the U.S. in 2023, by state

Wind penetration in the United States stood at roughly 10 percent in 2023, that is, wind accounted for 10 percent of the electricity generated across the country that year. Iowa was by far the state with the highest wind penetration with almost 60 percent of its electricity production covered by wind. South Dakota and Kansas followed with approximately 55 and 46 percent, respectively.
