Japan: average annual spending of vocaloid otaku 2022

According to a survey conducted in Japan from July to August 2022, vocaloid otaku on average spent about 9.5 thousand Japanese yen per year on their hobby. Based on the same survey, the number of otaku in the vocaloid segment was estimated at 430 thousand people during that year. Vocaloid products gained popularity in Japan after the introduction of the vocaloid software voicebank and virtual character Hatsune Miku in 2007.
