Japan: estimated number of vocaloid otaku 2022

Based on a survey conducted in Japan between July and August 2022, the number of otaku in the vocaloid segment was estimated at 430 thousand people. According to the same survey, vocaloid otaku on average spent around 9.5 thousand Japanese yen per year on their hobby. Vocaloid products gained popularity in Japan after the introduction of the vocaloid software voicebank and virtual character Hatsune Miku in 2007.
