In 2021 in each region of the world besides Australia and New Zealand, women experience more food insecurity than men. Latin America and the Caribbean has the biggest gender gap, with 45 percent of women experiencing moderate or severe food insecurity compared to 34 percent of men. Eastern and Southeastern Asia has the smallest gap, as both 15 percent of men and women experience moderate to severe food insecurity. Climate change, conflict, and COVID-19 have all driven increases in food insecurity.
