As of July 2023, Pawan Kumar Chamling, the Chief Minister of Indian north-eastern state of Sikkim was the longest-serving Chief Minister of India holding office for over 24 years. He was followed by Odisha's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with over 23 years in office. A chief minister is an elected head of each state in India. There is no limit on the number of terms a chief minister can serve in India.
