Based on a study conducted in 2023, the majority of respondents in all age groups in Nigeria reported that they went to a hospital when they had malaria symptoms. 37 percent of men and 44 percent of women who have had malaria symptoms claimed that they went to a hospital when the symptoms started, while 22 percent of men and women reported that they went to a chemist shop. On the other hand, three percent of women and none of men reported that they went to their pastor or imam.
Malaria is a dangerous disease caused by a parasite that usually infects a certain type of mosquito, which in turn affects humans. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
