According to a study conducted in 2023, the majority of respondents in almost all regions of Nigeria have reported that they went to a hospital when they had malaria symptoms. 60 percent of respondents living in the North West geo-political zone who have had malaria symptoms claimed that they went to a hospital when the symptoms started, while 32 percent of respondents living in this zone reported that they went to a chemist shop.
Malaria is a dangerous disease caused by a parasite that usually infects a certain type of mosquito, which in turn affects humans. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
