The most recent U.S. citizen to win the prize was former President Barack Obama in 2009. The United Kingdom holds the second highest number of winners with 11, whereas both Switzerland and UN organizations had received 10 each. In 2024, the prize was awarded to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo for its work against nuclear weapons.
