In a study conducted in April 2023, respondents revealed that they or one of the members of their household had visited a hospital in the preceding three months. Specifically, 88 percent of them reported cases of malaria, compared to 83 percent in April 2021. Typhoid came next as the most diagnosed disease, with 32 percent of respondents confirming cases of this infection, compared to 25 percent in April 2021.
Malaria is a dangerous disease transmitted to humans by certain mosquitoes that bear the malaria parasite. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
