Share of respondents that have been treated of malaria in Nigeria 2023, by region

According to a study conducted in 2023, 29 percent of respondents living in the Nigerian North East geo-political zone reported that they or a member of their households had been treated of malaria in the preceding three months, while 71 percent of respondents living in this zone reported that they had had no treatment for malaria in the same time period. Moreover, 63 percent of the respondents in the South South geo-political zone had received treatment for malaria, while 37 percent reported that they had not.
Malaria is a dangerous disease transmitted to humans by certain mosquitoes that bear the malaria parasite. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
