Based on a study conducted in 2023, the majority of respondents in all regions in Nigeria viewed malaria as one of the most problematic health challenges. For instance, in the North East region, 99 percent of respondents reported that malaria was one of Nigeria's most worrisome health challenges. In comparison, only one percent of respondents in this zone said it was not.
Malaria is a dangerous disease caused by a parasite that usually infects a certain type of mosquito, which in turn affects humans. In 2020, Nigeria registered some 21.6 million cases of malaria.
