According to a survey conducted in Japan in January 2023, more women than men engaged in fandom activities (oshikatsu). Around 13 percent of female respondents reported engaging in fandoms, as opposed to eight percent of male respondents. Oshikatsu, a combination of the words oshi (a favorite member of a band, sports team, etc.) and katsu (activity), describes activities aimed at supporting a favorite personality, character, or object.
