In a survey conducted in 2023, most respondents in all regions in Nigeria reported that they were aware of the fuel subsidy removal decision taken by the Nigerian federal government. The South South region had the highest share of people not knowing about the removal of fuel subsidy by the government, at 11 percent. According to the source, this decision was taken by the government to lighten its economic burdens, as the cost of maintaining the fuel subsidy has increased over the years.
