Based on a survey conducted in the UK in 2021, most residents agreed that nicer places along streets to stop and rest, such as more benches, trees, and shelters, would help them to walk more often. Also, a considerable share of the respondents think that more frequent road crossings, wider pavements, and better accessibility are essential to their walking habits. In addition, 72 percent of people reported that less fear of crime or antisocial behavior in their areas would help them walk more often. Also, residents' gender has an impact on walking safety. While men feel the safest during a walk, women and other genders feel less safe.
