According to a survey conducted in the UK in 2021, residents' thoughts are different about the safety of walking and cycling in their local areas according to their genders. Men feel safer than women and other genders for walking and cycling in their local area. While 70 percent of male respondents think cycling is safe, the numbers are 68 and 60 percent for women and other genders, respectively.

The survey was 'push to online survey ' involved sending letters containing access codes and login details to specific addresses within a stratified sample.

Respondents were from 17 UK cities: Aberdeen, Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, Dublin Metropolitan Area, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Greater Cambridge, Greater Manchester, Inverness, Liverpool City Region, Perth, Southampton City Region, Stirling, Tower Hamlets, Tyneside, and West Midlands Metropolitan Area.
The sampling process first divided the population into geographical areas and electoral divisions, after which specific quotas were set based on age, gender, and socio-economic status.
Data reflects responses to the question "Thinking about the different ways in which you travel around, how often do you…?’ Please give your best guess. "
