According to a survey conducted in Japan in September 2023, 59 percent of the respondents decided on whether to continue watching a television anime by the first episode. The survey also showed that story and characters were the most common factors in determining whether people would continue to watch an anime or drop it.

*The total number of respondents was 2,406. Of the total number, only those respondents who had previously stated that they had ever watched television anime were regarded for this survey question. People who had watched television anime made up 81.5 percent of the total number of respondents.
