During the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, domestic core-fans made up the largest share of ticket holders for the tournament's matches, with 45.9 percent. Meanwhile, overseas fans comprised the second largest share with 28.2 percent.

Special properties

survey participants bought their tickets through the RWC 2019 official site and questioned through a purchaser database. 95,081 Japanese residents and 5,391 non-Japanese residents responded in total

Supplementary notes

The source defines domestic core fans as Japanese spectators who attended at least one rugby match annually. Meanwhile, domestic non-core fans were Japanese spectators who had either never attended a rugby match or very rarely did so. Overseas fans didn't receive a definition from the source.

Note that those who purchased the tickets did not necessarily attend matches.
