Value of repeat buyer mortgage lending in Ireland 2018-2023
The value of mortgage loans for second and subsequent borrowers (SSBs) granted in Ireland declined by approximately 830 million euros in 2023. In that year, nearly 3.75 billion euros worth of mortgage loans were granted to repeat homebuyers, down from approximately 4.58 billion euros granted in 2022. The lowest value of loans, on the other hand, was observed in 2020, amounting to nearly 3.1 billion euros, a decrease from the 3.7 billion euros in 2019. Loans to first-time homebuyers followed a similar trend.
