The number of mortgage loans for second and subsequent borrowers (SSBs) granted in Ireland declined to its second-lowest value between 2018 and 2023. In that year, repeat homebuyers took out 12,720 mortgage loans. Conversely, in 2022, the Irish mortgage market saw the highest number of repeat borrower loans, amounting to nearly 16,180. Lending to first time-buyers followed a similar trend, yet increased in 2023.
