In a survey conducted in 2023 among consumers in Australia regarding their attitudes towards sustainability, over 45 percent of those surveyed said that, from their perspective, a product or service being recyclable or biodegradable made it sustainable. Just over 35 percent of respondents indicated that a product/service using minimal packaging or recyclable or biodegradable materials was, in their eyes, sustainable.

Respondents were asked about their attitudes toward sustainability, their opinions on what makes a product or service sustainable, what actions they were taking to have a more sustainable lifestyle, as well as the leading reasons they hadn't yet adopted a more sustainable lifestyle.
