In 2023, skin care was the beauty and personal care product category with the biggest share of ads violating the code of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) at over 30 percent. Cosmetics followed with a share of 24.7 percent.
As the self-regulatory body of India's advertising industry, the ASCI audits ads based on a variety of factors, including misleading and offensive content.
