Scripted TV seasons released in the U.S. 2019-2023, by platform type

In 2023, the number of U.S.-produced scripted TV seasons released on SVOD platforms, such as Netflix and Disney+, amounted to 257, down from over 330 recorded in the previous year. While TV shows on subscription-based streaming services produced in the U.S. accelerated until 2022, this trend slowed in 2023, not only because of the strikes in Hollywood, but also due to studios moving away from U.S. towards international productions. The same development can be observed for pay TV, commercial free-to-air channels, as well as social media networks. Meanwhile, TV seasons for ad-based streaming services remained unchanged.
