Global digital population facing online restrictions 2023-2024
As of May 2024, 79 percent of the world's internet population lived in countries where individuals were arrested or imprisoned for posting content on political, social, or religious issues. Around 66 percent of internet population lived in countries where authorities deployed pro-government commentators to manipulate discussions on online platforms. A further 67 percent lived in countries where people were attacked or killed because of online activities.
