As of 2021, just over one-third of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were assessed as developmentally on track in all five Australian Early Development Census domains, compared to over 56 percent of non-Indigenous Australian children. The five domains cover physical health and wellbeing, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills (school-based), and communication and general knowledge. According to the Australian Early Development Census, the domains can predict children's outcomes in health, wellbeing, and academic success later in life.
