In a survey conducted among parents in Western Australia from December 2021 to January 2022, around 78 percent of respondents agreed that televised coverage of sports games should be free from junk food and drink marketing. Over three-quarters of parents surveyed said they agreed with this because junk food and drink marketing in sport makes it more likely for children to pester their parents for junk food and drink products and leads children to believe consuming junk food and drinks is normal.
