As of August 29, 2023, most sequels released in theaters during the summer recorded a drop in box office revenue in comparison to the previous movie. 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' (2023), latest installment of the 'Indiana Jones' franchise, underperformed by making 51.8 percent less than 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' (2018) globally. Only 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' turned the tide by garnering 79 percent more than 2018's 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', thus becoming the highest-grossing animated 'Spider-Man' movie yet.
